The therapy is tailored to suit the individual needs of each client and is designed so that issues can be dealt with in an efficient, pro-active manner. Sessions last 1 hour. During this time, the client has the space to express their innermost feelings and thoughts. They are not judged. There is no confrontation in this form of therapy. In fact, they are supported and cared for in a real therapeutic manner. However, from time to time, the therapist may make statements that provoke thought and questioning in the client’s thinking process. This gives the client the opportunity to look at issues from different angles, in a safe, non-threatening and supportive environment. Most importantly, sessions take place in a totally confidential environment and no content will be disclosed (subject to legal restraints, of course) without the expressed permission of the client.
Services
Short-term, Focused & Co-operative Counselling
Among the types of issues usually dealt with are:
- Stress reduction / Personal and in Work
- Self-esteem building
- Problem Drinking / Alcoholism
- Coping with loss
- Sexuality issues
- Sexual Orientation matters
- Bullying
- Addiction
- Reactive Depression
- Anxiety
- Conflict Resolution

The client is expected to partake in a pro-active manner in the process. This may mean some short “homework” type exercises being carried out between sessions. These exercises are designed to help gain further insight and can be the equivalent of being extra sessions on ones own.
Typically, the therapy consists of approximately 6 to 8 sessions, but this may vary as it largely depends on the presenting issues. It is expected that there will be, at least, one session every two weeks. Some studies show that 80% of Clients tend to stop attending therapy on or before 10 sessions. Because of the homework element of this approach, it could be said that the Client can achieve better outcome and value.
The benefits of this therapy tend to become more apparent fairly quickly and deepen as the months go on, even long after the sessions have ended. The client begins to look at everyday situations from a new perspective. Life goals become clearer, free from many shadows that inhibited progress.

It is advisable that the client has a “progress report and update” session once every 3 months, for a while, after the initial sessions are completed. This helps to monitor progress and assess direction.
